AppleMail - navigate through Inbox mailboxes with shortcuts [SOLVED]

Upgrade your OS. Worth the time and effort. And worth the hardware upgrade, if needed.

Old machine here, can't go above Catalina, unfortunately...

Control-clicking on a mailbox gives you the contextual menu option to 'Add to Favorites".

I think you can favor nine mailboxes.

Once favored, you can go to the nine mailboxes by hitting Command + the corresponding 1-9 of the mailbox you want.

Setting up shortcuts with these mapped to key combos should be a snap.

Older versions of macOS (and OS X) do not offer this Contextual Menu item. If that's the case for anyone, the Favorites Bar can still be used with the default keyboard shortcuts described above by BernSh.

The Favorites Bar can be enabled with View > Show Favorites Bar and then mailboxes can be dragged in place in the bar. More than nine mailboxes may be added, but only the first nine will be given a keyboard shortcut by the system.
