Automating folder creation from a file?

Hello

I am wondering if KM is the right tool for a project I would like to complete. I am about to purchase the software but wanted to see if what I am trying to do can easily be done. If anyone has any general suggestions or pointers, much appreciated.

I have a folder on a NAS drive which contains movies and shows. Over the years I have placed these as individual files in the main folder then watch them via Plex. I have realized that what I really should have done is to create a sub-folder for each title then put the media file there under the main media folder.

What would like to do is run a macro on the main folder, read each file name there, create a folder with the same name then move the file ( movie, show etc ) to the newly created folder. When the macro has completed I would have under the main folder a sub-folder for each file with the file moved to the folder.

Is this relatively easy to do in KM.

Thank you

Allan

Howdy, welcome to the forum! As you might have already figured out, this is a great community full of people who love to help.

Yes, this is very easily doable with Keyboard Maestro. Also, there is a free trial that allows you to get familiar with the software before purchasing it that even the developer himself likes people to do.

Most of the time us folks on the forum like to have people make their own attempts, at least initially, but since you’re brand new to KM, and the enormous amount of actions it has can be daunting, I put together a sample macro for you to accomplish this. Check it out to see if it suits your needs. Let me know if you have any questions about it, or it doesn’t work.
