I'd also add "reducing the number of triggers you need to remember". If you've multiple macros that have similar functions, give them all the same hot key but differentiate by context, using a Conflict Palette, prompts within the macro, etc.
For example, you might have home and work email addresses that you use in Word and your markdown editor. Instead of four different triggers you'd have one, set two of the macros to be active in Word and the other two in your markdown editor, and set their names so that "home" and "work" are the first differences in them. So ⌃e h would enter your home address in the correct format, whichever app you are in.
