Can't use Magic Trackpad 2 Click as a trigger

I’m trying to use a simple single finger click of the Magic Trackpad trigger a macro (actually, I want to trigger the macro upon release). But after I select USB Device Key as a trigger, clicking in the “This device key:” box has no effect.

Am I doing something wrong or is there simply no way to do this in KM?

As far as I am aware, the Magic Trackpad click does not cause a USB device value change, so no, you wont be able to do that.
