Hi everyone,
I am trying to create a workflow in Keyboard Maestro that works the same was as the setup that I have been using for years in Automator. I find Automator a lot simpler to be honest but really want to learn KM as I know it's way more powerful. I am trying to get the contents of a specific folder on my Mac and then filter the contents of that folder to a specific file (.pdf) once I have filtered the .pdf file I then want to move it to another folder. This is simple in Automator but after spending several hours trying to do this in KM I am no closer to being able to even get the folder contents? I beleive that there is a set of rules that KM uses and I need to learn but have no idea. Would anyone mind giving me some guidance based on my criteria
Is it always the same file? Could it be multiple files? Which file is it?
Hi, the folder is the same but the filter will just filter out a .pdf file so there may be 5 files in the folder but only one .pdf file (if that makes sense). So KM will open the folder (the folder will always be the same folder) and then it will find the pdf file as there will only be one. Once it has the pdf file it will then move it to another folder.
Kind Regards,
Darren
Hi Darren,
Here is a sample macro that will at least get you started. You will need to adjust the fields that say SOURCE PATH
and DESTINATION PATH
to whatever directories you need to work with. NOTE: It will move any and all pdf files, so as long as you only have one like you mentioned, you should be fine. If you end up having more than one pdf file, then there are ways to ensure you move a specific one. Let me know if you have any questions about this.
Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was trying to do. It's great because I can now see what needs to be done in order to accomplish this. I really want to learn how to create these types of workflows in KM but cannot seem to find a course that will show me without getting very complicated as in using the terminal commands or writing apple scrips! I just want to be able to use KM like this! Anyway this has given me an idea of how to build workflows and will help me immensely. Thank you very much for taking the time to create this for me
You’re very welcome. While I always encourage people to read the wiki pages, there’s nothing like having a video tutorial showing examples. So the MacSparky Field Guide might interest you. David (the owner) does an amazing job with his Field Guides, and while it’s not free, it’s worth it. I purchased the field guide after having used Keyboard Maestro for around 4 years and I still learned new things. Check it out, it might help. ↓
Thank you. I have brought the course. Great suggestion. Hopefully I will be able to help other on here in the future.
