How Do I Get Count of Files in Folder when Folder Trigger is Invoked?

Is there something in KM that can do this or Terminal that I can run with a shell script? I want to create a counter so that as my process works through the files, I get like 1/25, 2/25 etc so I can judge how long it will all take. Thanks, Jon
