How does one search for a macro group instead of a macro?

I can find anything in the search syntax which would allow me to specifically search for a macro group.
thanks in advance for your time and help

Hi, @ronald. On the Search Strings wiki page you will see group:"group name". That will limit the search to macros within group name.

Off hand, I can't think of a Keyboard Maestro editor method to search for a group, but I might be forgetting something.

But you might find this macro useful:

Jump To Favorite KM Macro Group [Example] - Macro Library - Keyboard Maestro Discourse

thank you very much @_jims . I am not sure I understand. Using group name how would you search for a group containing the word large.
I was looking for the display large text macro group.

Hum, now I'm confused.

Are you referring to a macro group or Group action?

If the former, the macro groups are sorted in the KM Editor. Also you might find the macro I suggested above to be helpful.

If you are trying to search for something within a macro group action, I don't think there is a way to do that.

A word within the name of a macro group. thank you

You could copy the macro as XML and then paste the XML into a text editor. But that would be tedious.

There is a misunderstanding.
We are only talking about macro groups, specifically macro group names, not individual macros.
When I forget a macro group's name and because I have am unorganized and have a zillion macro groups, I find myself often scrolling up and down the list of macro groups looking for the macro group of interest.
For example, I was looking for a macro group which I knew contained the word "large", and am looking for a way to search for a macro group containing the word large (which I eventually found and was "display large text"
thanks very much for your replies

Oh, okay. :grinning:

I think you’d find aforementioned macro helpful. There are likely other similar macros available on the forum.

Search finds macros, not groups.

That said, you could find any macro that is within the group, and then click the group name at the top right corner of the macro editor.

OK thank you @peternlewis

Search so it's selected and its contents displayed in the Editor?

This can be written more concisely, but the long form should give you a good idea of what's going on and what you might want to change to personalise it:

Find a Macro Group.kmmacros (7.4 KB)
