I only know how to close the last engine window.

It is one of the options in the standard Resize a Window Action. There is also a very useful relatively new Action called Set Next Engine Window Position which you can put above a display window action to move and resize the following Engine window.

How do you determine the size of the window without doing endless testing ?
I suppose that depends on what your definition of "endless" means 
. I would just guess a value and then adjust until it looked as I wanted. But if you wanted it to match the size of an existing window I suppose you would need to get that window's dimensions.

OK. thanks again very much. I was wondering if there was something like the convenient "get" command I often use for mouse clicks.
Make a Finder window the size and in the position you want the Engine window to be, get the frame of the Finder window...
...and use the values -- they're in the same order as you need for the "Set Next Engine Window... Move and size" fields.
