KM as login item not functioning without relaunch

Greetings all.
I’m a relatively new user, having finally abandoned good ol’ reliable Quickeys due to lack of development.

I’ve been making the transition fairly smoothly (with only modest cursing and hollerin’) but have had this persistent issue with my Macbook Air. I have KM set to launch each time I startup as a Login Item, which it does. Unfortunately to get it actually work I have to bring it to the front, Quit it and then relaunch, after which all works as per normal. This does not happen on my desktop iMac.
My system:
MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012)
OS 10.11.6
2 GHz Intel Core i7
8G RAM

Hey John,

The only thing you should have in your log-in items is the Keyboard Maestro Engine.

You should have the “Launch Engine at Login” setting checked in the Keyboard Maestro Editor prefs.
