When I use TeamViewer on my MacBook Air to remote control my MacStudio on TeamViewer, my KM macros don’t trigger with the keyboard command I set. Is that a limitation of KM when doing remote control?
Do I need to install KM on the Air and copy all my macros to it?
Think of it like this: KM on “your” computer can control “your” apps. So you can control TeamViewer. But anything “running inside” TeamViewer (i.e. on the remote computer) isn’t really “visible” to KM or anything else on “your” computer, if that makes sense.
Personally, I remote control my other Macs all the time, and I have KM installed on each one.
But you do have to be careful with things like keyboard shortcuts and possibly making sure some macros are active/deactivated on each computer.
As an example, if you have a macro on “your” computer and a macro on the remote computer that’re both activated by cmd-A, things could get confusing as the computers try to figure out “who” the keystroke is meant for, or most likely, both macros on both computers will run, whether you want them to or not.
That said, with some careful planning, everything should work great. YYMV of course.
Also, you may or may not want to “copy all” the macros to the remote computer. There are ways of syncing KM to other computers (which is what I do), or you can keep them completely separate, macro-library-wise.
Turns out the problem is with TeamViewer. When I tried using Chrome Remote Desktop, all my macros worked.
A few years ago, I ran into a similar issue with Screens.
I found that if I had the remote screen in privacy mode, keyboard shortcuts would not work.
If I allowed the remote screen to display normally, they worked.
That may be why some work and some don’t.
Once I had a work around, I didn’t dig into the issue any further.
