Surely not! Well, given the extent/clarity of the documentation, it's at least complexity handled as manageably as possible. Now I didn't know enough about what I needed to search for this specifically, but made it here out of curiosity anyway!
I'd installed MACRO: A Macro to Track Macro Usage when I saw this shoutout:

Thanks to @_jims and his Insert Action to Check Accessed Variables macro for the code in this group. The variable is just the XML for the tracking action (with stuff outside the main pair removed). The real work is the AppleScript, which inserts that XML as an action above the selected action in whatever macro you have open.
