Monitor Thunderbolt Connection Between Computers

I am looking for a way to monitor a thunderbolt connection between my Mac Studio and my MacBook Pro. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to do this?

How are you using the Thunderbolt connection? Is one Mac in Target mode (so it appears as a disk), or are both running as normal and just networked?

What specifically do you need to monitor, and why?

If possible, once that thunderbolt cable is connected (becomes true), I would like to mount a drive on my MacBook Pro, after that, I would like to sync a couple folders. I can do this over Wi-Fi but need the speed of thunderbolt for really large files.

I have been fiddling with this off & on all day with no success. Is there any way to check the condition of this Thunderbolt connection to my MacBook Pro and then trigger an action?
