Newbie Questions - Peter's Nonworking Examples and Phantom Status Menu

I just downloaded Peter’s Examples file. It appears grayed out in the Groups list. What does that mean?

None of the Examples work as presented. Presumably the grayed out means inoperative?
How does one toggle the grayed out status?

Finally, I am unable to find in any of the help materials how to make the status menu appear. Where is it?

Thanks.

Right there in the preferences:

I don’t know which examples, but if a group is dimmed it usually means ‘disabled’.
You can enable it with the at the bottom of the window.

See above.

Or in the View menu > Toggle Enable:

Ah, the inscrutable becomes trivial.
(It would help for the View item to say Toggle Status Menu.)
Thank you so much.

The View item @Tom showed is to toggle the enabled status of a Macro, or Macro Group.

I'm pretty sure the KM Status Menu is always visible, as long as the KM Engine is running:

Ah So, the status menu appears following two actions. Toggle Enable in the View menu and click the KM icon in the Apple Menu Bar. Makes perfect sense now.
Thanks.

Sorry, but no, that is NOT correct.

The “Toggle Enable” has NOTHING to do with the KM Status Menu.
Again, the KM Status Menu icon is ALWAYS available/shown whenever the Keyboard Maestro Engine is running.
The KM Engine is different from the KM app.

The Status Menu is the Keyboard Maestro Engine’s icon in the menu bar. It is generally always visible when the Keyboard Maestro Engine is running (which should normally be all the time). Read the Quick Start user manual section if you’re unfamiliar with the parts of Keyboard Maestro.

Any active macro with the Status Menu trigger will appear in the Status Menu, along with various other things like recent clipboards and applications and such.

For a macro to be active:

  • The Macro Group containing it must be enabled (this is what the Toggle Enable does).
  • The Macro Group containing it must be active (Macro Groups can be configured to be active only in certain applications, or otherwise can be active only some of the time).
  • The Macro must be enabled (this is also what the Toggle Enable does).

You can toggle the enable on a Macro or Macro Group or Action by selecting it and clicking the ✓ button at the bottom of each column respectively.

I hope that is clear.

After reading the Quick Start, consider doing the Tutorial (Help ➤ Tutorial).

Unless you disable it in the preferences.
