It's not playing a random one, it's playing the oldest one. Then it marks that one as "new" by changing its date. Then the next time you run it, some other file will be "oldest." Rinse and Repeat.
Spaces are allowed in filenames or directory names (directories are just files.) I'm not sure where you heard that they aren't.

OLDEST FIRST:
very interesting. all my clips have the exact same creation/modification date; so, that's probably why it looks like it's picking random ones. it must be defaulting to some criteria that I can't see easily.
SPACES:
If I enter a single space in either my file name or folder name, it doesn't work... that's the only variable I'm changing. So, with my system it appears to matter.
btw, I'm very impressed with KM – what a GREAT program.
