Open folder with its dimensions, close behind (Finder Folder Icon Luck) Macro (v11.0.3)
I've edited the post because I realized I may be able to state its purpose much more simply. This is just a way to get the same result as command-option-o for folders in Finder icon or list view without forcing the target folder to adopt dimensions and location of its containing folder.
It's for people who like Finder's icon view. I don't remember exactly when icon view for Macs became passé, but I put together this macro a while back, and decided to share it even though it probably won't be very exciting to most users. It's so simple that it's more of an idea than a macro, so please create your own version of the macro if you like the idea but want another variation.
If I double-click a folder in icon view in the Finder, it opens in the same location and with the dimensions as the window I'm already viewing. However (if I've ever opened the folder in icon view and moved or resized its window, then closed it in that view), Finder remembers that information. So from my perspective that information is wasted unless I open the folder using ⌃⌘o. Then, if I want to close the folder's containing folder afterward, I have to either click it or ⌘ (there's also ⇧⌘
) first. This macro performs those steps. To use it, just open a folder that contains your target folder in icon or list view, select the target folder in that window, use a key trigger to activate the macro (it's ⌃o by default). If I've forgotten a way to perform the same action in Finder, please tell me so I can learn something. I can't seem to get the ⌃⌘o to work if I add additional modifier keys. Thanks.
