Renew mac window

I have a pc split keyboard set up to help me to put less pressure on my upper back when working on the Mac. It is set up with Kabinarer so it works. But dictation works and then stops working. I think that the problem is related to the keyboard. The split keyboard is so comfortable that I'm not willing to go back to my small Bluetooth keyboard. The system is set up so that double-click starts dictation. If dictation stops working, then the workaround is to click outside the window. The window disappears. Then click on the desktop so that the window appears again. Then click on the window again. That's quite a bit of clicking and really disrupts the workflow.

I'm thinking that somehow I can get the window to become sensitive to dictation again by doing something with KM. My improvised macro doesn't work at all. It doesn't seem possible to get a double-click of the command or control keys. These would be the normal ways to start the dictation in Mac.

Can you give some more details about what you are trying to achieve. It is probably my unfamiliarity with dictation that is making me ask this.

So in which application are you using dictation? Is this the Finder or a web browser or ….

And then second, can you give an example of is being dictated?

Why?

What steps have you taken to confirm this suspicion?

Is the split keyboard also connected via Bluetooth? If so, could you try connecting it over USB instead? That would rule out the keyboard’s Bluetooth connection being a factor.

So the keyboard should play no part in the process? How is it potentially a factor in this problem?

I think the first is to be more confident about the likely source of the problem and in particular whether the keyboard does play a part in the problem or is a red herring. I hope the above questions (which are for you to answer to yourself rather than to me ) might inspire some further testing.

Ai says it is related to how Mac does dictation. If I turn off dictation in the system, then turn it on, dictation works for a while. And then it quits working. Maybe if it has to do with the Mac system, there's nothing that KM do about it. I only think it has to do with my keyboard because I never had this problem before I had the keyboard. The keyboard is designed to work for PC not for Mac. I'm using Karabiner to program it.

Below is the input to dictation in the Mac system.

Dictation should run from when you start it until you stop speaking for a period (generally 30 seconds). Assuming that it isn't you pausing that's stopping it, it sounds like your keyboard is sending a double-Command key for some reason.

Simple fix -- change the shortcut to something else! Not only should that stop you keyboard from interfering, but a "proper" shortcut using a "proper" key with modifiers can also be triggered by a KM macro for an easy on/off. So if you set it to ⌃⌥⇧⌘D:

...you can flip the switch with F9:

...or however you prefer.
