This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion
Please treat this discussion forum with the same respect you would a public park. Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small.
The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.
You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But, remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:
- Name-calling.
- Ad hominem attacks.
- Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content.
- Knee-jerk contradiction.
Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation. If you see a problem, please Just flag it, don't try to respond to it.
In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time. Moderators do not preview new posts in any way; the moderators and site operators take no responsibility for any content posted by the community.
Request Help Sensibly
If you wish to report a bug or ask for specific assistance for using Keyboard Maestro, you may be better off to contact Stairways support. If you have a question on how to use Keyboard Maestro to accomplish something, then the forum is a great place to ask.
When asking a question or requesting help, please try to include the relevant information. In particular, consider including:
- What you are trying to accomplish (before going on to how you are trying to do it).
- What you have done/tried and how it has not worked.
- Explicit details about any input, including how you will select files, exact text you want to parse, etc.
By including what you want to accomplish, you allow people to suggest completely different solutions. By showing that you have tried to come up with a solution you demonstrate that you have put in some effort already, and by including explicit details up front you avoid time wasting back and forth.
Posting Macros
If you have generally useful macros (or even macros that make interesting examples), please post them to the macro category. Please ensure the macros are safe (if in doubt, post only an image of the macro actions).
As a corollary - macros can be dangerous. You should use extreme caution when installing any macro from an unknown source (which includes any macro on this forum). Macros can run immediately they are imported, and can do anything you can do, including for example deleting all your files.
Including Images
You cannot yet drag or paste an image into a post, so you must select the image using the Upload (Control-G) tool button.
Keyboard Maestro lets you easily copy a macro or a set of actions as an image (using the Copy ➤ Copy as Image menu), and this macro can be used from the file select dialog box to save the image to a file and then select it.
Post Only Your Own Stuff
You may not post anything digital that belongs to someone else without permission. You may not post descriptions of, links to, or methods for stealing someone’s intellectual property (software, video, audio, images), or for breaking any other law.
