Apple Mail loses line endings when Insert Text By Pasting

Something that used to work for me seems to have stopped working. I have a macro that inserts some boilerplate text that’s a few paragraphs long into Apple Mail. For some reason now it shows up all as one paragraph, ignoring the line endings in the macro text.

The line endings appear correctly when I run the macro elsewhere (e.g. Aquamacs). They appear correctly in Apple Mail when I switch the macro to “Insert Text By Typing”, but this is too slow for all the students I need to write to.

Anyone know what I might be doing wrong? I searched the forum and didn’t see anyone else having the same problem.

In case this is relevant, I’m using El Capitan 10.11.5 (15F34).

There are several types of line endings, CR, LF, or CRLF. Maybe Mail wants one or other of them and not the one you are using in the text.

Mail is just broken with line endings at the best of times. Half the time I triple click and cut and paste a line I end up with a differing number of lines.
