Beginner -- Has hot key usage changed?

I've keyboard maestro before, but now I cannot get it to work.

I am using macos sonoma with KM 11.0.3. I'd like to try function key f2 to start a micro. When I'm in the editor and I press f2 I get a question ?.

false alarm. I was in debug mode. Stopped at start.
