Can I Use KM to Prevent Slack From Using ⇧⌘␣?

Both Slack and 1Password 8 use the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘␣:

  • Slack (un)mutes a Huddle
  • 1Password opens Quick Access

This keyboard shortcut can be modified in 1Password, but not in Slack. Unfortunately, I prefer to use it for 1Password and not for Slack...

Can I use KM to prevent Slack from using/seeing this keyboard shortcut?

Nyet.

Not so that keystroke would be blocked in Slack and would go through in 1Password.

You could possibly map the keystroke to a KM macro that would activate the requisite 1Password process, but you'll have to experiment.

You can set the Slack huddle shortcut to something else (like ^⇧⌥⌘H):

  1. Bring up the Keyboard System Preferences Pane.
  2. Choose the “Shortcuts” sub-pane.
  3. Choose “App Shortcuts” on the left.
  4. Press the "+" key to add a new entry.
  5. Choose Slack, and add the exact title of the Huddle command.
  6. In the field over on the far right, press the exact obscure combination that you’d like it to use.

From that point, the ⇧⌘␣ combination in 1Password 8 will no longer conflict with the Slack shortcut.

I already tried to do that, but there’s no (menu) command in Slack to (un)mute; only this keyboard shortcut and a button.

Grrr. Bloody Electron apps....

Indeed…
