Cannot select from palette

I've come across an interesting problem -- I have a palette that is set to appear under the mouse pointer, and when I move the pointer to select an item, the palette moves with it! I'm not quite quick enough to select an item before the palette catches up with me and centres itself at the pointer.

Any suggestions as to what I might do to prevent this?

OK, don't worry -- I've solved this. Rogue AppleScript was to blame. I really shouldn't dabble with things I don't fully understand ...
