Floating Buttons? Is That a Thing?

Is there any way to have buttons that float above whatever app you're using so that you can trigger a macro by pressing them rather than hotkey, typed string etc? I am not aware that such a thing exists, but maybe someone has come up with something creative that achieves this?

You could try the built in Switch Control feature that is in most of the newer versions of macOS. There is a Panel Editor that lets you customise the on-screen buttons and assign hot keys. You get to it through the Accessibility panel in system preffs then select the check box to turn it on. More info can be found here.

You could use palettes with the icon(s) or image(s) of your choice.

Here is a palette that I use for Safari. It performs a two browser window, moves a window to the left or right, centers the browser window etc.

A closer look.

Here is how it was created in the Palette Style Theme Editor.
