Forcing TextEdit to update

This Quick Note Taking System was created by Bkammer. It adds a quick text note to an existing note. If a note with the title doesn't exist in the directory, it creates a note and adds the text.

My modified version saves the note to an iCloud directory.

If I create a new note, all works well.

If I add new text/note to an existing title, the new text/note doesn't appear until I close and reopen TextEdit.

Is there a way to force TextEdit to update? Could the issue be related to saving the note to an iCloud directory?
