Has someone found a way to activate a Keyboard Maestro macro from within a VM?

This question is not really about programming within Keyboard Maestro, but may be interesting for others nonetheless.

I have a program running in a Windows VM.

In the Windows VM a program runs that should trigger a Keyboard Maestro macro, preferably by hotkey. The macro will copy something from the VM to a specific window on the Mac.

Note that it is not the keyboard that activates the hotkey, but a macro that simulates a hotkey press in the VM.

If hotkeys do not work, can you suggest another trigger?
