Hold the control key until I press the left mouse button

I need a macro to hold the control key until I press the left mouse button.

I tried to do this with the "Press and hold the control modifier" set to press and hold and "pause until the left mouse is pressed". But this doesn't work like I need it to, the control key is pressed and released right away.

Does anyone know if it's possible to make a macro that works the way I'm describing?

The Click Mouse action itself has options to simulate simultaneous pressing of modifier keys. Have you tried that?
