The official documentation says it's not possible to use hotkey macros inside user text input prompts.
Is there any way to work around this?
(I have a lot of macros for LaTeX expressions and would like to be able to use them inside the user input forms...)
You can use Hot Key triggers.
You just cannot use Typed String triggers.

Not within Keyboard Maestro. This is an inherent limitation.
Personally I get around this by using Typinator for (nearly) all of my text-abbreviation-completion needs.
It synergizes nicely with Keyboard Maestro.
