KM: Still misbehaving across the board

I’ve been using the full version of KM for months now. I really gave it a good chance, did all the updates, etc., but it remains completely unreliable and erratic. It looses track of macros and/or won’t execute them, exhibits long delays at times - often just hanging half way through a macro, finishes half a macro other times, and incorrectly report errors about “open dialogue boxes” when executing a macro. It works great for about 5 minutes, then it starts going south in dribs and drabs. After 10-15 minutes I have no choice but to abandon using it.

It’s not just one macro that might have been implemented incorrectly. I’m no novice when it comes to computers and this is not a highly complex program to setup. It simply is unreliable and fails miserably.

Even the brain dead Quickeys is still working better than this.

FYI: 2013 Mac Pro Trashcan, El Cap, 32GB RAM. 20 years of computing experience.

I’m sorry that’s true on your computer, and I wish I had an answer - hopefully someone else will jump in with more information.

However, let me just say that KM is a pretty darn solid app, and AFAIK, most people don’t have the issues you’ve mentioned. The reason I bother to mention this is so you know you’ve got an abnormal situation, and personally, when I have issues with software like you’re describing, I like to know if this is a common occurrence, or if my situation is unique.

Have you tried the standard things like repairing disk permissions? (Believe it or not, this has helped me more than once.)

Once that’s done, have you tried uninstalling KM and reinstalling? See https://www.keyboardmaestro.com/documentation/7/how.html#how_uninstall for info on how to uninstall completely.

Sorry I don’t have any more information to help. As I said, hopefully someone else with more experience can jump in and help.

Yep. Done all that. Machine and drives all in excellent health. No problems on any other apps.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with Keyboard Maestro, but I've never seen anyone else report anything like this, or even close to it.

Clearly there is something specific to your Mac, and your setup of Keyboard Maestro, that is causing these issues.

Let's start with the basics:

  1. What versions of OSX and KM are you using?
  2. Did you do the standard install/setup of KM, or have you modified any settings?
  3. Do you have any other apps acting strangely?
  4. Do you have any special tools/utilities/apps always running in the background?
  5. Starting right after a clean restart of your Mac, and no other apps running, do you still have these issues with KM?
  6. Can you post at least one macro that consistently give you a problem?

Please hang on a little while longer. I'm sure when Peter (who is on Australian time) comes online, he will be able to suggest some more specific diagnostics.
