Macro error notification

Guys over the last few days I've seen this notification twice:

Clicking on any of the buttons doesn't seem to do anything and I can't work out what macro is causing the issue. It seems to occur when I'm away from the Mac (if that helps).

Any assistance on tracking it down would be appreciated.

Under the Help menu in the KM Editor is a menu item called Open Log Folder, which you should click on. One of the files in there is called Engine.log. Open that file (double clicking should normally do it) and then scroll roughly to the bottom where that error is located. Then look at the lines above it to see the name of the macro that was triggered. Then go back to the editor and open the macro that was named in that file. Then search the actions in that macro for the string "Xferd". That should be the location of your error.

I've never used the macro that you are using (MacroBackerUpper) that appears to be generating those errors. It looks like something related to a file not being found. You may need to ask the person who built that macro.

I wrote that macro, and it's hard to tell what's going on from the log file, other than action ID 15603348 is having lots of problems. But that action ID is different on your Mac than on my Mac, so I'm not positive where it's at.

[Note: This is @DanThomas' Select Action by Id v1.1 macro, from this thread. I just edited it to hardcode the action ID.]

Run the "Select a specified action" macro, which I've pre-coded with that action ID. It will select the action in the macro that's causing the problem. When it does that, please take a screenshot of the area it selected—not just the action, but the surrounding actions. Also please tell me what macro it is in.

Have you changed anything in your setup lately, like a new drive for the backups, or maybe renamed a massive number of groups or anything? I've never seen any messages like you're seeing, nor has anyone else reported a similar problem.

Hi Rob thanks or swift response. The only thing I've done recently is deleted some of the default Macros that I had set to be disabled for a long long time.

Running the downloaded / imported macros just gives me:

Whoops, I left a Display Text in there—take that out of the "Select Action by ID" macro. It looks like it might be working behind that, but I can't tell. Run it again once you removed the display text.

It should stop - all that macro does is select a macro action. If you scroll the macro, do you see one of the actions selected?

Thanks; that's what I was hoping to see. It's failing at the step that creates a link between a group in the older backup and the newer backup—it's not finding the older backup. This may be related to deleting unused macro groups, but honestly, that should "just work," so I don't know how it may be failing. I'll try to dig into it, but I don't have a lot of free time this summer, so I'm not sure when I'll get to it.

At this point, I'd suggest just starting over with the backup macro—move your existing backups to a new spot (if you want to keep them), then delete the entire backup folder and its contents. Within Keyboard Maestro, open the Settings > Variables window, and delete any globals that start with rg_MBU.

When you run the MBU the next time, it should treat it like a first time use, and have you specify a folder, etc.

Thanks, I did as you suggested and reinitialised everything. All looked to work okay but I still got an error part way through:

I re-ran it manually via the keyboard shortcut at this time there was no error. Weird.

There shouldn't be any read-only databases in the macro, so I'm thinking the old one was still here and (somehow) opened. But if it's working now, well, I guess that's good.
