I've downloaded a few macro groups and now have macros that I can't identify which creates clutter.
Is there a way to find out if a macro is part of a group?

That's pretty vague...
The only time you can see a macro without having its group selected is when using a smart-group or doing a search.
In those cases the macro name displays in the upper right of the editing panel of the Keyboard Maestro Editor.
Personally I wish the group was always shown rather than only in certain contexts, but Peter didn't like that idea the last time I brought it up.
Your confusion is a perfect example of why I think it'd be a good idea.

Thank you. I see now that the gray type in in upper right hand corner helps.
Vague because I have only recently explored Groups and those only because others have uploaded them.
You can't have a macro that's not in a group.
One should be careful with groups/macros that are global, because it can be all too easy to activate them in an inappropriate context.
It's a good idea to segregate any macro that should run only in a specific application in a Macro-Group specifically dedicated to that app.
As you can see, I have more than a few groups...

Hi, @KBM. You might find the following thread helpful. In it I contributed a screenshot that will help you navigate and locate a macro.
When you have selected a macro in a flattened listing (search, All, smart group etc):
View > Reveal Parent Group
⌥⌘R
@ComplexPoint, thanks for sharing that tip! That's certainly the most efficient method when one wants to move to the group.
The method I shared in the screenshot is still useful when one is browsing a flattened listing and wants to determine the macro's group membership.
@ComplexPoint. Thank you. Added to my notes
@peternlewis Would be a nice addition as a right click option.
