Mouse died; bought Magic Mouse - is there a mouse click trigger?

Previously, my mouse was a USB mouse. I also had a wireless mouse that was connected to the USB dongle. Both mouse died. I bought a Magic Mouse and found that a couple of my macros are not working. Apparently, Magic Mouse left click is not a trigger since it is not connected via USB (and thus, not a USB Device Key Trigger) ... or, am I wrong? :frowning:

Correct, there is no mouse click trigger other than the USB Device Key Trigger, which as you note only works with USB devices.

Thanks @peternlewis

Hello @cherry

Since the Magic Mouse is a Input Device that works the best with gestures - you probably should take a look at BetterTouchTool to get the most out of it.

I’m a BetterTouchTool User for quite a long time now and I love to trigger Macros using Touch Gestures. It gives so much flexibility.

It’s worth trying out.

Hello Tobias, greetings!
Thanks for your suggestion. I’ve taken a look at it and sadly, or surprisingly, BTT does not register mouse click (for Magic Mouse). It does have various gesture such as single tap or double tap left or right side of the mouse. I’m looking for mouse click as what I do, Options-Left click and Options-right click are actions that have ingrained in my muscle memory. I’d rather get another USB mouse so I keep this muscle memory than learning a new gesture. As it is, my little brain is choked full of keyboard shortcuts already. I should not torture it with new stuff. Ha ha ha…!

Unless I am completely missing something... the left button of the wireless Apple Magic Mouse is registered as a USB Device Key trigger even though it is not connected via USB. I have been using the below for years now:

Hello @cherry

Yes I know about this…. I think the Magic Mouse is under-used without any of these Gestures BetterTouchTool is delivering - that’s the reason, why I use it and made that suggestion.

Based on this it might be better trying Aurio‘s (@Zabobon) Suggestion - where it seems that KM is able to detect the Magic Mouse.

It probably depends on system level stuff as to exactly how it is implemented.

I think the reason I am not registering the click is I am using that first gen Apple Magic Mouse, the one that required two AA batteries. I think maybe this Magic Mouse was implemented differently. Thanks for informing @Zabobon

I don’t think so. I had that version too and didn’t see this. Unfortunately I haven’t got one around still so, I can’t double-check.
