There has been some spam from new users on this discourse lately. Not very much, but much more than in other discourse communities I participate in. Maybe tweaking some settings (no link postings from first time users) would help?
They tend to come in waves, and thankfully there are a bunch of folks around who report them so they vanish from visibility pretty quickly.
If it becomes a serious problem, I'll look at controlling new users more, but as a Discourse user on other forums I often find Discourses restrictions annoying already so I am loath to restrict it further.
