There is an option for "to Calculation" in the Search and Replace action.
Does this make any sense?

Not to me. Good question. The wiki doesn't explain what that could be for.
No, that appears to be a bug. Environment Variable would also not be a reasonable destination.
I will look at getting that resolved.
