Search the Keyboard Maestro Forum with a Web Search Action

Hey Folks,

The Keyboard Maestro Forum Search isn't bad, but it's pretty basic. I tend to use it on a first pass when I'm looking for something, but I frequently end up turning to Google.

Many people don't know you can do site-specific searching with Google. It's easy:

     your search terms site:http://forum.keyboardmaestro.com

Okay, let's make it easier yet with a Keyboard Maestro Web Search Action.

WebSearch » Keyboard Maestro Forum » Google.kmmacros (2.2 KB)

Thanks.
I have a TextExpander snippet that does this:
;km.search expands to

site:http://forum.keyboardmaestro.com

Sorry, why are images shown Broken… “No image” I see this alot in posts…

I've been noticing that a lot also.

Hey Bill,

I've seen this somewhat lately, but by the next day the images are back.

If you're seeing more permanent issues then please report specifics to Peter.

Thank you Chris, Will do… :grinning:

You can use google to search the forum by clicking the search button, and then the Help link.

At the bottom of the Help popup is a Search with Google field.

I have never seen any broken images, so I don’t know why you are seeing them. Given the reports seem to indicate they appear later, perhaps it is some sort of caching issue? I believe Discourse moves images after they are “committed” and then adjusts the post, so its possible there are bugs in that part of Discourse. You could ask on meta.discourse.org to see if it is a known issue.

I’m finding the same issues, only the images don’t tend to appear later. However if I view the source code and extract the URL for the image and open it in a new tab I can view it. I might try a different browser .use Chrome currently.

I searched meta.discourse.org but didn’t find anything.

Update: I think I may have found the reason. Most of the images posted to the forum I can see, it’s just some that don’t work. Looking at the source again the ones I can see are all .png and the ones I can’t see are .tiff, so probably best to post in .png format.

From StackOveflow: Only Safari supports tiff files.

Therefore, if you want anyone to see the images, use either jpg or png!

The "http://" isn't necesary for site-specific searches. "site:forum.keyboardmaestro.com" is fine.

BTW, the syntax works to eliminate as well as focus. E.g., to get rid of ehow.com stuff use "-site:ehow.com"

Hey Richard,

Thank you for pointing that out.

I have only used PNG files for posts to this forum, so why the image in my post would be a TIFF I cannot say.

I have replaced it with a JPG.

-Chris

If people will report broken images or TIFFs on the forum to me I’ll fix them where possible, but please message me direct and keep irrelevant traffic off the forum.
