Sticky control, option, shift, and command keys

About the time I started using Keyboard Maestro, something odd started happening. Whenever I press the shift, option, control, or command key, an icon with that key symbol pops up on my screen. If I press the key for more than a couple seconds, the icon remains and the computer acts as though the key is still being pressed. It stays that way until I notice it and press that key again. Often this is a nuisance, as when I type a long series of all caps letters before I realize what is happening. I have searched thoroughly and cannot find any information about this, or any way to turn off this feature.

Is Keyboard Maestro causing this? If not, does anybody know what is causing it. Most importantly, how can I make this stop happening?

Hi mecutler, I think you have sticky keys turned on.

Thanks. You were correct and that solved it. I don’t know how that got turned on - I have been using Macs since 1984 and never had that happen before. (I’m sure sticky keys did not exist that long ago, but whenever it started, I never used it. A gremlin no doubt.)
