Traditional keyboard letters Will not work when…

KM 8 user. Have had for a year but Admittedly never got into it or started using it heavily. Now I’m trying to because I see the tremendous benefits t the program. However off the rip I have an issue so I apologize if this is really elementary question and answer

I’ve noticed that whenKM is running, the engine more specifically, certain letters on my keyboard stop working. *DISCLAIMER:I mainly type everything with voice dictation for those who may wonder about this example. For the purposes of this example the word BLANK will represent the letter O …well you get it.

MANUALLY TYPED:
Example: If I manually type wrd the letter BLANK is missing because my keybard will nt type it. Same ges fr ther letters and it seems t be tied 2 if they part 0f a macr. This sentence tells it all. If I quit the KM engine, all is back t0 n0rmal

Just in case I’m running a 2015 iMac and OS X high Sierra

Hey Anthony,

Look through the troubleshooting page: Troubleshooting Keyboard Maestro

Switch to the Keyboard Maestro editor.

Type Cmd-Opt-F to bring up search-all.

Select View > Sort Macros by > Date Used.

Do your typing that eats a character.

Switch back to the Keyboard Maestro editor, and look at the top of the macro panel.

See if that macro isn’t your problem.

With Keyboard Maestro 8, select Help ➤ Assistance, and click on “Something unexpected is happening” and follow the instructions to find the wayward macro.

Hey thanks Chris!

I had tried the assistance route to no avail. After reading your response, as a new user, I learned something (always good); how to reverse engineer the last macro triggered vis-à-vis troubleshooting. Since my post I had made some changes to my existing macros so the BLANK was no longer an issue. This time it was the L, again dictated not typed.

By following your instructions, my macro, the one which I used a letter as a hotkey turned out to be the problem. Would be the problem with any letter in the alphabet if I had chose to use it. I suppose hot key in KM has to be a symbol or some other prompt besides the alphabet or single letters.

Problem solved!

Thanks again buddy. I gotta say I shouldn’t have waited a year to get into this program! I can envision the direction that It can take and the vast amount of time it can save. Of course I wholeheartedly expect to be on this form again LOL but hopefully with something a little more complicated next time. Cheers
