Trouble remapping F12 on Macbook Air with Sierra

System Version: macOS 10.12.1 Beta (16B2548a)
Kernel Version: Darwin 16.1.0

I can create a macro to remap F12 to ForwardDelete however, when I then press F12 it switches to the Widget screen instead of performing a ForwardDelete.

This works on my Macbook Pro but not on the Air. Is there something I’m missing?

In System Preferences->Keyboard, “check” the option that allows you to use F1, F2, etc as standard function keys.
