Hello. Brand new to KM, but Mac user and tech nerd for 25+ years
Software used:
Scrivener - app for writing books. I use it for fiction novels.
Vellum - app for formatting books to publish via Amazon etc.
I write books these days. I use Scrivener to do so, and then I use Vellum to format.
The 'proper' way to do this is to export a manuscript from Scrivener and then Import it into Vellum
however - I don't like this way - it is messy and means I have to go back and make lots of edits after.
What I do -
I have a template 'book' in Vellum with all my regular front and back pages.
I then paste in each chapter from Scrivener as I write it.
This works well, I can then export an ebook every end of day, load it onto my kindle and read back.
During the edit process, I typically redo this copy/paste of each chapter hundreds of times as I make changes.
What I would like to do -
Automate this in KM!
The problem?
Scrivener has a totally open structure for how chapters can be dumped out. I can however script moving between chapters.
But - how can KM know how many chapters I need to get? Can it query and get feedback from apps?
Sadly Scrivener and Vellum both have zero apple script support as far as I can tell.
Next problem
In Vellum, again I can script moving between chapters - but once a chapter is selected, you then need to click in the edit window before pasting in text. I've tried to do this with a scripted mouse click - but it doesn't seem to work.
in another life, I taught myself Swift - so I am comfortable coding. I just don't really know where to start with KM. What are the boundaries? What amount of feedback can it get from apps? Can it cope with flipping between areas inside an app window - left column into main edit space etc.
appreciate any pointers in the right direction! thanks
