First, my apologies if this is not directly related to KM.
Some time ago (possibly following instructions given by someone on this forum) I set up my keyboard so that if I selected some text and pressed the Control key, the selected text would be copied. Recently this has stopped working and I can’t figure out why or how to restore this function. Can someone point me in the right direction? (I am running El Capitan.)

I’m not sure if the USB Device key trigger works for you, but it has a conflict with Karaniner-Element for me.
You could try BetterTouchTool’s Key Sequence trigger or Hammerspoon script.
I have Karabiner installed, and the USB Device key trigger does indeed not seem to work. But I don’t think this is the cause of the problem here. Hammerspoon looks a bit beyond my capabilities, but I will have a look at BetterTouchTool.
And I would really like to know how I set up the Control key in the first place to copy text.
