If I start Google Chrome, KM gives me a message like:
Google Chrome: Executing JavaScript through AppleScript is no longer supported.
which is followed by KM Engine new notifications in their thousands, slowing the system.
Safari does not have this problem.
Can you help?

Safari does have this problem, Chrome copied Safari recently. You have to explicitly allows JavaScript via Apple Events.
The same preference is required in Safari (in Safari, its in the Developer menu, which itself has to be enabled in the Advanced preferences).
