Why can't I upload macros now?

When I use the KM Editor to share a macro (i.e., File / Share / Keyboard Maestro Forum), it doesn’t work anymore. It just uploads a screenshot of the macro (which is good) but it fails to upload the macro itself. But it looks like other people are managing to do it somehow. I just tried to upload a macro into the testing page, and as you can see, that didn’t work.

I just posted one on the testing page, and it worked for me, as you can see over there. Two questions come to mind:

  1. In the "edit" window for your post, are you using the new "live preview" view, which is the default, or did you switch it back to old style, as I did (because I found the new view flakey, at best.)

  2. What macOS version are you using? I tasted in Sequoia as my Tahoe Mac isn't available at the moment.

  1. I suspect I’m not using “Live Preview” because, since the website upgrade, it seems to have been disabled automatically. I don’t even know how to enable/re-enable it.
  2. I’m using Tahoe.

I think “live preview” (my name for it, not Discords) is the cause of the problem, and the cause of some confusion between us based on what I named it. To me, “live preview” is the one-window view where it shows your formatted text as you type, and it’s now the default in the new Discord.

When I tested uploading a macro with it set to that mode, the link did not appear! So I think you’re still in that one-window mode, based on your comment about “disabled automatically.” Re-enable Markdown mode, using this button at the top left of the text entry box:

This will give you the old-style side-by-side windows, and macro uploading should work perfectly.

Let's see if this works now. I think I followed your advice when uploading this macro. HMM, it appears to have worked, at least for the first 30 seconds the link to the macro hasn't disappeared.

Test Macro (v11.0.4)

Test.kmmacros (4.7 KB)

Link is there for me, four minutes later. Seems that Discourse's new default input mode isn't compatible with Keyboard Maestro's share feature—@peternlewis, not sure if you can control the default input mode for new posts or not?

That may be true, but I would point out again that when I uploaded a one-action macro it did work, until the web page refreshed. So I infer that the compatibility existed for about ten seconds. Clearly there was nothing wrong with the upload process, but with something else on the server that subsequently broke the correctly uploaded link.

FWIW, I tend to just paste in a screenshot and drag in the macro by first exporting it to the Desktop. That seems to me to be slightly more straightforward than the standard method.

It doesn’t explain why the two macros I posted with test user accounts, including one brand new account, both worked and remain valid. They were both using the default input mode, which would be the new mode.

To do them I did this:

  • Share to forum
  • Select Forum Admin category
  • Post
  • And then later (with my own account) I changed the category to the Test category.

Try that sequence with no editing of the contents.

Perhaps it is editing the contents that is messing things up?
