I know AltTab has this functionality, but I’m curious if KM’s app switcher offers this, too? Or whether it perhaps might in the future?
MacOS's Spaces are managed by private, undocumented APIs that Apple does not expose to developers.
<-- that means I got this information from AI, but I also read that on these forums.
KM has never used private, undocumented APIs for any of its features. So that suggests that it never will.
AltTab is capable of doing its job, for some situations, but it doesn't always work. And it has a history of breaking during every major release of macOS. The good news is that its developers keep finding ways to patch it up after every major release of macOS. The bad news is that some of its features broke for Sonoma and Sequoia, and those features still don't work. ![]()
So it's a matter of philosophy. The maker of KM doesn't want the hassle of things breaking every time Apple releases a new OS.
Thanks for explaining.
I will say that I’ve been using AltTab for awhile at this point, and its “only show apps active in the current desktop space” functionality has pretty much always worked for me without issue. So even if this functionality relies on an undocument API, it seems like it might be a reliable one.
But I understand what you mean by it being a difference in development philosophies.
