I have to regularly append two images/screenshots together into one image. Either vertically or horizontally, I don't care which. The images/screenshots are not the same size if that matters.
Is this something that KM can do?
Yes. You need to read the image files in question into named clipboards, optionally resize them, then create a new blank image large enough to contain both and composite each image onto the new blank one. You can see a (dated, but still viable) example of this with an older version of KM here:
