So it seems like it crashed and then Keyboard Maestro was no longer "responsible" for it being on screen, does it make sense?

Yes, @DanThomas bumped into this last month:

Just File ➤ Quit Engine, File ➤ Launch Engine.

As I said previously, this did not work the first time. It left the process "Keyboard Maestro Engine Web Content" running. I had to force kill it.

So if it happens again, fire up Activity Monitor, have a search for that, and kill it.
