With Keyboard Maestro active, open the Icon Chooser (⌘3) in Keyboard Maestro’s Window Menu. Select the icon for the Group or Macro then click the icon you whish to use in the Chooser. The alternate method is to copy/paste the icon from a file’s “Get Info” dialog to the Group or Macro’s icon.

…or just drag a .png file to the Group or Macro icon. It may also accept other types of graphics, but since PNG has transparency, that seems the logical choice.

You can also grab an icon from any Finder file or folder and paste it to replace group’s or macro’s icon. (Select the icon, then paste.) You can copy the Finder item by opening its Info pane, clicking the Icon, and copying. Even better, you can use one of the macros in Finder Icon Copy and Paste.

And don’t forget about KM’s icon chooser, which provides a wide range of icons, including those for common applications. Window > Icon Chooser or ⌘3. Note in particular the middle tab, which has the application icons.
