I'm trying to use an image i use for my email signature. But all I always end up having, even with copy/paste is a visual link to the image. So when the macro runs it types the whole link instead of the image. Am I doing something wrong?
Can you post the macro you're trying to use? You can do that via the Share button in the toolbar, then cut the text out of the new post that opens, and paste it here.
-rob.
There are probably several ways to do that, and griffman probably wants to help you with the method that you are currently using, but here's how I would do it. This action will read a URL image into the system clipboard...
From there you can paste the image(ie, the clipboard) into your application. Perhaps like this:
That would paste an image into your application, as long as the correct field is active.
That depends on what app he is using. He didn't say.
This forum will almost certainly be able to make it work for you, but I’d vote (do I even get a vote…?) against it. Some mail clients (bad ones) treat images in the signature as an attachment so it messes with the attachment count / paperclip indicator icon. Pet frustration of mine.
Good point. It doesn't just depend on the sender's mail app, it also depends on the receiver's mail app. And the person asking doesn't identify either one.
IMHO this question is one of a number of recent examples of topics that should have been replied to with a link to Getting Started with Keyboard Maestro and the Forum and an invitation to please try again, and then locked.
In the long term, it is kinder to newcomers if we first guide them towards providing clear questions, and less noise for the forum.
I've used a boilerplate in the past, but this one based on @_jims is useful:
"Welcome to the KM Forum.
You really need to tell us a bit more about what your macro is trying to do and with what apps. At the very least it would help if you would upload your macro so we can see what it is doing rather than trying to guess.
As a new forum user, you'll likely find these links helpful:
- Getting Started with Keyboard Maestro and the Forum
- How Do I Get The Best Answer in the Shortest Time to Questions on the KM Forum?
- Entering and Enhancing Forum Posts
- How to Post/Upload Your Macro to the Forum"
If the OP responds then it's likely to be fruitful going forward. If they don't respond - well, it's not been a waste of time trying to second-guess what the problem is.
If I offered my opinion on this issue, I would be off-topic. This discussion is probably better addressed in another page.
It is a balancing act to avoid wasting folks time, while also ensuring new users feel welcomed and not excluded from the clique of existing users who know “the one true way”.
Posting the boilerplate response as @tiffle shows and then waiting for an update is probably getting the right balance. It can even include the suggestion to feel free to start a new topic with your existing macro and more information and just let this topic die, since it is easier to post a macro to a new topic than to an existing topic.
Yes, as my wording was intended to reflect, of course I support politeness and kindness to new posters. I am also very sympathetic to the challenges of finding the most important directions to follow (and the challenge of presenting that information effectively). I was suggesting encouragement to, as, I said, "please try again", with help on how to do so, not any kind of door slam. There is the kindness aspect but there is also the efficiency aspect.
I am again trying to be concise because I am totally on the same page with @airy about the right place for discussion; I only wanted to quickly flag the issue, rather than start a debate.
Thanks for giving official statement/guidance on this important point, @peternlewis.
