Open the Keyboard Maestro Engine Log in the Console or BBEdit

Hey Folks,

Okay, I got irritated at having to jump through hoops to open the Keyboard Maestro Engine log...

The solution? A macro of course.  :sunglasses:

A Short Press of the keyboard shortcut will open the log in BBEdit (if you have it – if you don't I encourage you to install it and use the freeware version).

A Long Press of the keyboard shortcut will open the log in the macOS Console.app.

Either way the logs folder gets opened in the Finder in the background for quick access to the Editor log if needed.

If you change the keyboard shortcut, be sure to check the Long Press Options and change them too (as necessary).

(See macro below.)

Please note that the Keyboard Maestro log folder may be found in the Help menu of the Keyboard Maestro Editor.

The relevant folder path is  ⇢   ~/Library/Logs/Keyboard Maestro/

Note that there are actually two log files available:

~/Library/Logs/Keyboard Maestro/Engine.log
~/Library/Logs/Keyboard Maestro/Editor.log

You will normally want to view the engine log for errors and issues related to running macros.

I like that long press idea that is super handy!

This will be [linked] in my Keyboard Maestro Powerpack("") in a millennia when I get around to gathering input/making it :upside_down_face: along with the BBEdit rec (so useful).

It's not just a seconds-shaver, but also a searchable reminder of the very existence of the logs. How's that for our new(er)comers!

Wish I'd installed this 50 console opens ago.

Thanks, Chris. Hope you're well every time luck shines on me and I'm led to enjoy one of your posts - (ASCII) marks of your generosity. (won't even get started on the skill!)

Chris has been an incredible member of this forum, but unfortunately he's not been active for several months. I learned so much from Chris and miss his expertise and good cheer.
